Both the US and China are putting plans for going to the Moon in high gear. Eventually, this is so that the Moon becomes a source of economic activity. Lunar resources, like water and metals, can support sustainable human presence on the Moon. They can also lower the cost for doing things elsewhere in space, like going to Mars, and building power stations in orbit around the Earth.
Dennis Wingo, a long-time space visionary and leader of successful projects, lays out a clear, detailed vision for how to get industry started on the Moon. This talk was given this week at the NASA Ames Research Center and was broadcast around the country.
And who else thinks going to the Moon might be near at hand? The Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/24/opinion/that-moon-colony-will-be-a-reality-sooner-than-you-think.html
