About Dr. Gordon Roesler

Dr. Gordon Roesler is the president of Robots in Space LLC. He advises investors, government organizations, universities, and companies in ways to expand the space economy, increase the security of our space assets, and revolutionize the way we do business in space. He is an advocate for developing a robust in-space logistics infrastructure to serve the many missions and customers being developed today.

Previously, Dr. Gordon Roesler was the Program Manager for the Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites (RSGS) program at the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. This very complex payload provides the robotic capability onboard Northrop Grumman’s Mission Robotic Vehicle, expected to launch in the summer of 2026.

Prior to DARPA, Dr. Roesler was a Senior Physicist at the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research at the University of New South Wales. He led the development of a preliminary design of an Australian Earth resources satellite, and helped to organize the first of many Off-Earth Resources Forums held at UNSW.

In a previous term at DARPA, he created the SUMO program, which demonstrated autonomous robotic grappling of a spacecraft in the laboratory. He also initiated the FREND program, which developed a flight prototype robotic arm for space servicing missions, now being used on both RSGS and NASA’s Restore-L mission. He has held research and management positions in government, industry and academia. He holds a PhD in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
